What SoCal coastal shrub or gr smells like syrup?

My dog runs in the bushes chasing rabbits during our trail walks. She usually smells like the sage after, but lately she's been smelling like syrup and wonder which shrub or if it is something else like a certain gr? I think it's only this time of year, Spring, for this particular smell.
