You can get a lot of things from movies, most things like exorcisms appear like the trends that are happening through the ages. I would argue that movies like the Exorcist have started a bit of a m hysteria, if you are silly enough to believe that movie, than sure, you could be affected by it. The truth is that it was a total fabrication, the actual story was very different, urecognisable even. It was not based on anything remotely close to facts, dig up the source material.
